Well I am off the road for awhile and we did have 5 record breaking days of heat some as high as 106 so drinking lots of water. . . Wanted to provide a little more information about the changes with Guidestar. If you go to http://www.guidestar.com you will see they have three prominent Guidestar Exchange badges: bronze, silver, and gold. The highest badge is gold. I did a little research and find that 6% of chapters have obtained bronze, 50% have obtained silver, and 1% have obtained gold.
What was really interesting is when I went to our website in Reno http://www.renosparks.assistanceleague.org I found our original Guidestar badge that we obtained last year for completing a profile had been updated to the new silver badge without us doing anything.
I find that going from silver to gold is relatively easy. If you have never completed the profile simply go to the Guidestar link above and on their homepage you will find a yellow tab that is labeled “Update Nonprofit Report” which when you select you will find 8 sections to complete: general, financials, people, mission and programs, additional documents, impact, review and confirm. When you get to the goals section, you will see a statement, “The question is from Charting Impact an initiative of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance”. Select the Charting Impact link, which takes you to the Welcome Charting Impact webpage and you will enter answers to the following questions:
1. What is your organization aiming to accomplish?
2. What are your strategies for making this happen?
3. What are your organization’s capabilities for doing this?
4. How will your organization know if you are making progress?
5. What have and haven’t you accomplished so far?
I am meeting with my Grants Chairman tomorrow to get the process started for our chapter. Remember one of the most important things we can do in grant writing is to update our profile on GuideStar. When large funders who do not know us and review a lot of grants this is where they go to get additional information about nonprofit organizations.
So having fun for the rest of the day on a trip up into the mountains to see our grandchildren. Keep cool in all this hot weather. Catch me when you can and I will catch up with you soon. Sandie
